SegaSonic fans and Sally.

So i was talking to several SegaSonic fans about Sonic Lost World and other random topics about Sonic. One of the things that was brought up was there is (supposedly) a petition asking Sega to remove Amy from the games, which is something i would support cause shes nothing more than a fan service character now a days. I said that and mentioned having her a) re-written so shes more like she kinda has been in the comics: loves Sonic, inst crazy and stalking him, and understands that Sonic loves Sally... though shes still gonna try. and b) Replace her with Sally.

Guess what happened next...

If you guessed some people actually liked the idea, surprisingly several people agreed with me, but no i got the whole "She's a 'Mary-Sue" and "She and the rest of the comic characters are terrible" arguments. Well the latter is more or less the writers fault and several admitted that they only read the Penders-Bollers era and the last 2 years when they have been M.I.A. but seeing the former argument always grinds my gears. I asked to explain why they felt that way. Most answered "Because she is", "Terribly written", and/or "cause Amy is the only girl for Sonic." I was able to strike down their "arguments" easily but heres the thing about SegaSonic fans and Sally: Their reason of hating her seem to be baseless and hasty, several of them i have seen have been these:

1) "Because the Comic characters are terrible and under developed." Usually thats when i ask if they actually READ the comics at any point in time and the most common answer is "No" or "Years ago." Plus the characters in the comic are better developed than the video game cast, but Usually i say "how can you dislike something if you havent read up on it or have NEVER read it?" Most of them shut up there but then i get the ones saying "My friends/sibling/significant other/etc." said so. Well that kinda leads to this point

2) Because they are given bad/false information from others. Simple on this one, they are just given bad/misleading info from others and make their opinions based off of what they have heard. To that i say "Read it yourself and make your own opinion. Don't make your opinions based off of what others tell you or what other write about it."

3) SonAmy fans are worried that if Sally becomes apart of the games they are worried that Amy will be pushed aside for Sally and their feeble dreams will never come true." This is one is my favorite argument to debate against cause i just enjoy shooting down SonAmy fans dreams (I'm cruel arent i?) but the fact Yuji Naka himself said that "Sonic will never give Amy the same feelings as she does towards him." and its also a Sonic-franchise wide mandate (TV, Games, Comic wise. Fan made stuff can do whatever they want) that Sonic CAN NOT be together with Amy, though a "date" is allowed every once in a while. But thats the thing, they arent allowed to be together but they ask "Why does Sally get to be different?" Well cause of two things. One: (Most of) Sega could care less about the comics (to an extent) and Two: I remember seeing somewhere that Yuji Naka actually like the concept of Sally's character. But one point i make is that Sally is smart, independent, and a natural born leader where as Amy is just some lovesick, overly-obsessed fan who is about 2-4 years younger (more in the comic) than him and only cares about marrying him. So who would you pick: The Better developed character (Sally) or the "Fan-serivce" character that doesnt add much (Amy).

4) "Cause she isnt a game character." Well that one can easily (yet very difficult to achieve) be solved. Add her into a GOOD game or two and go from there. If they just copy her from the comics then they are pretty much doing it right.

But in all seriousness i find the hate against Sally hasty. Sure there are some who read the comics and dont like her. But the ones i have met who read the comics and dont like her give a good argument and cause they know what they are talking about i can respect that but if they dont read the comic, given false/bad info or just over zealous SonAmy fans i cant respect their opinions cause they dont have the knowledge (or just being unreasonable) to make a good argument. I really wish we could get her into the games or give them better info, maybe we could change opinions a bit
